The best BJJ online course

I’m hoping by writing this I can help you, as a fellow jiujitsu student, decided on a online training site to supplement with your training. I’ve only listed sites that I have joined myself and have been a member of.

Major sports organisations such as the UFC have Fight Pass which they use to showcase their own fights and along with archived footage of previous events

In Jiu-Jitsu, Flograppling (part of Flosports group) offer a yearly/monthly option that gives you access to the biggest IBJJF tournaments and many other events through the calendar year. Other smaller events have their own channels or else choose to showcase their content through social media channels.

Even many of the top competitors have launched their own subscription service and channel and are attempting to use their own brand to build an audience. Jiu-Jitsu is not the most lucrative sport for competitors so many players are looking elsewhere for revenue streams.

Here is a quick breakdown of some of the most popular BJJ digital offerings:

1. MG in Action

Marcelo Garcia

https://www.mginaction.com/

Who?

Marcelo Garcia

Price:

$25 a month, $250- 1 year, $450 – 1 year deluxe.

What do you get?

The channel provides breakdowns of some of Marcelo’s best known techniques such as the single leg x, marcelotine, and Rear naked choke. The content is updated regularly and also includes lots of footage of Marcelo sparring.

Comment:

MG in action is one of the longest running digital BJJ services. Marcelo Garcia’s launched MG in Action in 2009. You are likely to have seen clips of the channel on YouTube. The way that the technique is linked with the sparring videos allows you to easily make the connection between the two. Content is updated regularly and Marcelo’s clearly explains his technique and makes it easy to follow.

2. AOJ

Mendes Bros

https://artofjiujitsu.com/online-classes/

Who?

The Mendes Brothers

Price:

$25 a month, $250- 1 year

What do you get?

Lot’s of positional studies, overviews, and breakdowns combined with live sparring and competition footage. There is a Q&A section and also some good content on mindset building.

Comment:

Who better to learn from than Rafa and Gui Mendes. Both brothers are famed for their flawless technique and their competitive record speaks for itself.

The website and digital offering is slick and they have recently stepped up their Social Media presence for promotion. The mindset building content is cool and is something that is very often overlooked in Jiu-Jitsu learning.

3. Caio Terra

Who?

Caio Terra

Lesson plans broken down by technique, seminars, and live streams.

Comment:

Caio Terra is another early adopter of digital learning platform and has established an excellent resource for competitors and hobbyists. The site is easy to navigate and the videos are clear and informative.

Caio also gives live online seminars which is a cool feature not offered on many other sites.

4. Eddie Bravo

Review the best BJJ online course 2

Who?

Eddie Bravo and 10th Planet

Price:

Here is a quote from the site: For our Pro Membership, my business manager thinks I should charge $30 a month like Marcelo, or even $20 or $15, I will be keeping the price at $4.99 a month because I love you crazy fucks

What do you get:

Videos demonstrating the unique style and technique of Eddie Bravos famed nogi grappling school.

Comment:

The site is not the cleanest and could do with a Web 2.0 update. It is not very optimised for mobile either. However it is hard to argue with the $5 a month price tag and where else are you going to learn how to do a Flying Ushiro to Death’s Door?

5.  Roger Gracie TV

Review the best BJJ online course 3

https://www.rogergracietv.com/

Who?

Roger Gracie

Price:

€18 per month, €173 per year.

What do you get?

Lot’s of videos! Roger Gracie TV has lots of technique instructional combined with lots of videos of Roger rolling with various competitors. The videos are sorted by position which is good if you are trying to work on one part of your game.

Comment:

Who better to learn from than the GOAT himself! Roger is famous for his mastery of basic Jiu-Jitsu technique. In his videos you will see some of his most famous moves such as the cross collar choke and pressure passing.

6. Cobrinha

Review the best BJJ online course 4

Who?

Rubens Charles Maciel aka “Cobrinha“

Price:

$25 a month, $250- 1 year

What do you get?

Comment:

One of the nicest guys in Jiu-Jitsu. Like Andre Galvao, Cobrinha is a product of the Fernando Terere school and this influence can be clearly seen on his game. Despite being a smaller fighter Cobrinha has a diverse game and his web platform breaks down his technique clearly. In my opinion the site could benefit from an update but in general the content is excellent.

7. BJJ Library

Ribeiro bros

https://bjjlibrary.com/

Who?

Xande and Saulo Ribeiro

Price:

$25 a month, $250- 1 year, $450 – 1 year deluxe

What do you get?

The library is divided into a number of series delivered by the the Ribeiro brothers and a number of other well know practitioners. Each series is usually on a area of expertise of the instructor. The series very much feel like a series of DVD’s. In addition to this there is a video library with videos broken down by technique. This library is vast and there are lots of gems to be found! There are 6 new techniques added to the library every week.

Comment:

Xande and Saulo Ribeiro are two all times BJJ players. Xande is arguably the most successful BJJ competitor of all time. Like Marcelo Garcia, the brothers got in early on the web subscription model and have developed serious collection videos which definitely justifies the website name.

8. ATOS

ATOS

https://atosjiujitsuhq.com/online-training-videos/

Who?

Andre Galvao and the ATOS team

Price:

$25 a month, $250- 1 year

What do you get?

Lots of techniques. Techniques can be filtered by instructor, position, and category( gi, nogi, submission etc.)

Comment:

Andre Galvao has assembled one of the best teams in the world and his team have recently dominated many of the biggest tournaments in the world. His digital offering showcase his own skills and you can clearly see his influence on his students.

These guys are at the front of BJJ evolution so  it is really cool to see some of their techniques slowed down and explained thoroughly.

There are many other online resources for BJJ out there that I have not yet had a chance to try. I have listed some the ones I know of below.

9. Gracie Academy

Gracie academy

https://www.gracieuniversity.com

Who?

Rener and Rorion Gracie

Price:

There are many different options but typically monthly subscriptions begin at $20

What do you get?

Many different programmes such as Blue belt handbook, Gracie competitive, Women empowered, Gracie Bullyproof, and the Master cycle. There is a huge amount of content on this site.

Comment:

This online offering is very much tailored for people looking for self-defence lessons. In the past the academy has come under criticism for promoting students who only have online experience and have not demonstrated their skill in a live setting.

Despite this, there is no denying that the techniques being displayed are legit. Rener and Rorion have great presence and are naturals at creating good videos. This is obvious if you have ever seen the Gracie breakdown.

10. Other

There are many other resources out there that I have not yet got a chance to review. Some of the followings sites are well established while some are a newer offering. Let me know if I have missed any that you think should be included in the list.
